Four brave parents of students from Madison and McKenny Elementary Schools took on the Olympia School District School Board when they filed a legal appeal alleging the School Board violated its own policy when on December 14, 2023 it voted to begin the 90-day review to close Madison and Margaret McKenny Elementary Schools. Yesterday, in Thurston County Superior Court, Judge Anne Egeler agreed with the parents when she cited that the December 14th vote was arbitrary and capricious. Ruling from the bench she declared the vote to be invalid and that the process to close schools must halt.

What comes next? We keep working with the School Board and Superintendent Murphy to ensure the budget is balanced and no programs or services are diminished; rather they are increased to what our children need. Get involved here.
