Public Hearings Have Ended

On Thursday, February 29th the second of two Public Hearings was held at Margaret McKenny Elementary School! Over 500 people braved the weather to join in person.

On February 26th, over 800 of you showed up and supported the Madison Elementary School community during public hearing #1. Let’s break the record tonight - both in person and on zoom!

OSD4ALL agrees with President Seidel: “OSD has struggled to fully staff our schools.”

But we STRONGLY disagree with several of the reasons she provides including:

  • Our schools are overbuilt

    • Wrong - many of our classrooms are already in overload!

  • Our enrollment will not recover for some time

    • Wrong - enrollment has already begun to recover this year!

  • [it is] an outdated and wrong-headed notion that small schools are better for children. There’s just no data to support that that’s better - that they improve achievement for kids” (Feb 2023)

    • Super wrong - our small schools were recently recognized as some of the best in the state, Madison was rated #1 in the South Sound 2023, and McKenny’s achievement continues to exceed that of other OSD schools!
