Tick, Tock, Tick, Tock…

Tomorrow is the day. April 25th. We’ve come so far on this crazy ride together and have much to reflect on.

“The beginning of my journey in advocating on behalf of neighborhood schools started back in February of 2023. I became increasingly worried that the model of publiceducation that drove me, and so many other families, to this town, and to this district, was being reconsidered.

Much has been said about this process, and yet through all of its turbulence, I have learned and seen some beautiful things.

  • I have seen that when the simple path led through division, this town chose the opposite, more unifying course.

  • I have seen that people who live in different communities will rally together, and for people that live in others.

  • I have seen people hug, cry, laugh and support one another no matter the time or day of the week.

  • I have seen people who used to tremble at even the thought of public speaking become beacons of hope and advocacy for their communities.

  • I have seen people take on trauma that they did not need to pick up, and carry it as if it were their own.

  • I have seen people that come from diverse backgrounds, fight for diverse communities.

  • I have seen that when it comes to public education, this town puts its children above all else.

And while I know that there will always be challenges ahead, the collective response that this community has displayed gives me great confidence and makes me so proud to call Olympia home.”
