Are Schools Closing?

THAT IS THE $380K QUESTION

OSD is now projecting a $380K budget deficit on the $182M 2024-2025 budget. This represents 0.2% of the total budget and can be easily overcome with minimal cuts at the Central Administration Office.

This would put the ending fund balance (EFB) at 3%, which would meet district policy requirements.

THE GOAL POSTS KEEP MOVING
Now, the Board is talking of increasing the EFB to 4%.

Besides being completely unnecessary, it would take $1.8M away from our kids by cutting programs and/or services for our schools.

Additionally, despite the March 8, 2024 court ruling that invalidated the Board’s vote to start the process to close schools, the Board has failed to officially stop the closure process.

In the eye of the storm, THE COMMUNITY CARRIES ON THE FIGHT and is encouraged to speak out at the NEXT BOARD MEETING, THURSDAY, MARCH 28TH, AT 6:30PM, AT THE KNOX BUILDING. Here is the link to the meeting. Sign up to comment here.

SURVEY RESULTS

OSD4ALL received more than 300 responses to our recent survey, with representation from each school in the district. We were pleased to see that 25% of the respondents identified themselves as staff, bringing in a new set of voices that had been previously underrepresented.

The results were resounding; trust in the district is dangerously low and work must be done to rebuild that relationship
